Helsinki Metro Automated Operation Specification

Helsinki City Transport (HKL), the local transit authority, intends to introduce an Automatic Train Control and Signaling System for the Metro of Helsinki for Unattended Train Operation (UTO). UTO allows HKL flexible and safe operation while reducing costs and energy consumption. For the first time a migration to automatic operation shall be carried out based on existing rolling stock. In total 54 metrotrains (married pairs) and 16 stations are in operation. HKL operates two lines with a total length of 21 km.
