Brussels - Brabant LRT System Feasibility Study

The area of Brussels-Brabant plans to develop a modern public transport system to link the capital to its densely populated satellite towns. Project starts with the analysis of the first 2 directions: from the city of Brussels to the North till Willebroek/Boom as well as to the East to the town of Leuven.

Together with one Dutch and one Belgian partner LRTC carries out feasibility study and preliminary project design with following objectives:

  • Comparison analysis and selection of the best suited transport system (guided bus – light rail – heavy rail) under consideration of cost-benefit aspects as well as of future possible integration of the new system into existing railway/ tram/ metro network of the capital
  • Analysis of different route possibilities with focus on their possible influence on the residential structure
  • Passenger demand assessment
  • Assessment of investment and operational costs
