Vélez-Málaga Low-floor Tram Pre-Feasibility Study

Malága/Spain, 1999

About 30 km east of the City of Málaga  the towns of Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, located in one of the tourist centers of Spain, are to be connected by a tram route.

The length of the corridor will be about 5 km. At first, a shuttle service shall be provided with three modern low-floor trams. In order to operate also historical  trams with rod collectors, the overhead line system has to be designed accordingly. The line will be built with meter gauge in order to allow a later connection with the suburban railway system of the city of Málaga.

Together with a Spanish cooperation partner, LRTC has   prepared  a preliminary study with following content :

  • Market analysis about low-floor tram vehicles
  • Determination of the planning fundamentals with regard to the structure of settlement and population
  • Estimation of  passenger volumes
  • Preparation of a time-table
  • Specification of the route infrastructure
  • Estimation of investment costs for the infrastructure
