Audit Report for Zagreb Tram System

Zagreb/Croatia, 1998-1999

After the end of the war with Serbia, the transition to democracy and the opening towards the west, automobile traffic in Croatia increased considerably as in all former states of Eastern bloc. This led to great traffic problems, in particular in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia with about one million inhabitants.

For this reason, the city administration of Zagreb placed an order for a traffic study (“Zagreb Urban Transport Study”) with the British Consultant MVA.

LRTC has been subcontracted for an Audit Report on the existing tram system and its operation. Here, priority has been given to the exposure of existing problems, using characteristics of comparable public transport systems.

At a further step, statements about future problems concerning public transport have been made and   proposals towards a future light rail system have been elaborated.
