Bandar Seri Begawan LRT System Feasibility Study

Bandar Seri Begawan/Brunei, 1997

Bandar Seri Begawan, the Capital of Brunei, is located in the geographical centre of the ASEAN region. The total population of Brunei is about 300,000 inhabitants. Within the context of the planned development of the Capital into a Service Hub for Trade and Tourism (SHuTT) the implementation of a highly effective transportation system plays an important role.

The feasibility study of a light rail transit system in Brunei as prepared by LRTC included the following main steps:

  • Analysis of the current situation of transportation (land use, mobility rates, road traffic, public transport, demand/supply relation)
  • Proposals for improvement of public transport in support of SHuTT (public transport characteristics, technology specification, LRT network layout, alignment options)
  • Expected effects of the LRT system on the SHuTT scheme
  • Consequences and recommendations
